PROVERBS

On a cold morning, a short vendor with greyish hair who was not known by anyone visited a small town. He would shout loudly: “Proverbs! Proverbs! Proverbs! New and used! Just a coin each! Who wants Proverbs???”

“Of what use are these Proverbs?” a lady asked, “Eh! Eh!” replied the man, “Certainly these proverbs cannot produce a warm jersey for you in this cold morning mam, however it will enrich your thinking. Are you not aware that in every Proverb there is kilogram of good sense?”

“That’s a good one!” another man added. “So with a single coin, what Proverb can you sell to me?” the vendor gazed upon the man for quite a while and eventually sold him the following Proverb:

“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, But fools despise wisdom and instruction.” (Proverbs 1:7 NKJV)

Reaching out her hand with a coin as well, the lady said “Give me one too!”, so the vendor said: “Here’s one that will help you show your children the right path.”

“Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.”
(Proverbs 22:6 NKJV)

The woman walked away ashamed and in deep thoughts because she was known as ‘The mother that doesn’t know how to discipline her children’.

And in this manner, that aged vendor sold a kilogram of good sense in a day for just a coin to children, youths and elderlies.

Would you also like to drop a Proverb so that those that read this post may also gain a kilogram of good sense?

But just remember: Freely you received so freely you give!

God Bless You,
Bp. Gilson Costa

  2. "Freely you received so freely you give!" Indeed. We all should keep this in mind.
