Self - righteousness

He was not lacking righteousness.
Much less integrity of character.
His faith was enviable; he feared God and avoided evil.

Then what was his problem?
Self-righteousness.

Because his behavior was impeccable, upright, God-fearing and he avoided evil. Apparently, Job was perfect.
God exalted him in front of the devil, when He said: "...there is none like him on earth..." Job 1.8
Nevertheless, there was something excruciating and fundamental about him that subtracted from who he was: he only knew the Lord God from what he heard from others. Job 42.5
That was his big problem – which is also most people’s problem.
They are honest, upright, keep away from sin, have a ruled life, do not hurt anyone, but unfortunately, because of this self-justification, they are not delivered.
Everything leads us to believe that a deceiving spirit convinces them of their "purity and holiness”.

They do not need salvation or a Savior, because their "works" are like those of Job.
Job was so confident in his own righteousness that he goes as far as to say:
"Even today my complaint is bitter; my hand is listless because of my groaning.
Oh, that I knew where I might find Him, that I might come to His seat! I would present my case before Him, and fill my mouth with arguments. I would know the words which He would answer me, and understand what He would say to me. Would He contend with me in His great power? No! But He would take note of me."  Job 23.2-6
Notice that he was so confident in his own "purity and holiness", that he goes as far as to say:
"I would present my case before Him, and fill my mouth with arguments. I would know the words which He would answer me, and understand what He would say to me."
Many people do not have their lives transformed because of this self-righteous spirit: "I don’t do this, or that; I am faithful, I pay my tithe, I give my offerings; I go to church, read the Bible, pray, fast, etc, etc and etc ".
Just like the story Jesus said about the Pharisee:
"The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, ‘God, I thank You that I am not like other men - extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector. I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I possess." Luke 18.11-12
Meanwhile, "the tax collector, standing afar off, would not so much as raise his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me a sinner!’ “Luke 18.13
Jesus concluded: "I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other..." Luke 18.14
Wouldn’t they be like the five foolish virgins? Matthew 25.1
They were virgins, who were apparently pure, holy, and saved, but they did not have the light from the oil of the Holy Spirit. The door closed, and they were left behind with all of their purity, holiness and virginity.
After a whirlwind of events, the LORD said to Job:
"Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell Me, if you have understanding." Job 38.4
In other words, the Lord answered Job: Who are you to profess all of these arguments before me?
Once he came to himself, Job finally admitted that his righteousness, though perfect in his eyes, was like a filthy rag before the Almighty.
Then he confessed:
"I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees You," Job 42.5

  1. We have to be in the right track with God with HUMBLENESS and OBEDIENCE. We have to humble ourselves before God when we go trough the problems and don't be selfish.

  2. Reading this was very insightful because I had never seen Job in this light before. It just goes to show that self-righteousness can be in any of us and it's not always visible but that is why we need to examine ourselves daily.

  3. It is very crucial for us as servants to always search ourselves to see who we are.

  5. I have read about Job but never in this way I understand, to be self-righteous can lead to great destruction that you don't even know what is going on, because until after God spoke to Job that he see where he was leading to. In this I understand as well, when you are self-righteous you try to take the place of God, like to say he is obligated to bless you because of what you do or you keep the praises for yourself. Through humbleness it makes you to see the wrong that you do to turn from.

  6. what is why the bible says watch and pray because if we don,t we will end up in big trouble and because of pride we end up lose our salvation we have to search for those little fax and remove it before its too late.

  7. i understand that we must not think within our selves that we are too holy or 'perfect' regardless we go to church every day pray, fast, give offerings, tithes have a position or a title in the church, we must always be humble and always look at ourselves not perfect and ask God to forgive us everyday. even though we may say we don't do anything wrong still look at ourselves as a low person before god that doesn't deserve anything and God will exalt us.

  8. it all comes down to us being sincere with ourself. we are not perfect, there is always room for changes and improvement daily. we cant allow our lock of sincerity to bring us to shame in our spiritual life

  9. For me i read that job was perfect and upright but I wasn't, aware that it was heard we had heard about God and didn't know god for himself until after he admit that he was wrong and then his life was restored. many people are self righteous and don't know god for themselves. they can only talk about what their pastor said and don't even know that they are being deceived by that form of holiness. No one is perfect and self righteousness is a form of ungodliness. Rachael Stewart

  10. Job was the most righteous man in his days perfect and upright ,he was liked form many good things, because he knew he was righteous this made him SELF RIGHTEOUS,because of this he was neglecting the Spirit and full of pride. So God told Satan he could destroy All that job had, even his Children but don't touch job himself , so Satan was used by God to punish job for his self righteousness, jobs trouble was not what he did but what he was, some Christians are so self righteous that they act as if they are superior than every one else, especially if they get a little position in the Church, since righteousness is not from what we do but result of what God has done for us, we should never act morally superior to other people,we should not act this way to be noticed by other for we would have no reward with our Father.
Christians who act this way may not even be a Christians,at all , some act as if they are 'Holier -than-thou," and this is strongly condemn by God.So we should just be humble and do the work pf God with a meek and mild spirit in order to achieve rewards from our father for once he lift us up no one can put us down

  11. I admit that sometimes when difficulties come I fall into this trap. Job did everything correctly but when he humbled himself he really saw what was lacking and he finally had a true encounter with God. We have to recognize that we are nothing before God.

  14. This message open my eyes, why? God connot use a self-righteous person, cause he is proud, and "God resists the proud but give grace to the humble."that is why when He was here on earth He choose twelve vagabond,i am just thinking if God did choose twelve self-righteous person,to follow Him, it whould be no saifice or crucifixion, that is why we have to humble ourself, and not to be self-righteous,becase it is a trap.dujay sterling

  16. imagin he was called perfect, i will never be called perfect until God is ready for me and i am taken with him, examination of ones self is a must, job is an example to all of us, me, to be more specific. God had a deep respect for job imagin that.

  19. this is what hold many people down ,they think that because they are not doing anything wrong, they keep their faith and think thats enough to get their Salvation while many people are fighting to find God Themselves and the others stay behind.

  20. To be frank I read just the first part of JOB but not all the book of JOB, I never knew that part of the book of JOB was so strong, what I understand as servant of GOD, we have to know JESUS for ourself, not from someone, we have to have our experience with him. Because JOB was so self- righteous he couldn't know GOD, when you're Proud GOD cannot speak with you, and because JOB was SPIRITUAL blind as well,he couldn't see what was before him all along, he recognise is mistake and humble himself before GOD, and he realise that he was nothing before GOD. So as servants of GOD we have to examine ourself to see if there is any self-righteous behaviour inside of us, search if there is any residue, any fragment, any fur that is there and when you identify it, you cut it from the root. This message even open my eyes even more. Thank you GOD bless. Nicole Wellington

  21. An opportunity to humble ourselves, a mind opener. what more could we ask for in these last days of the out pouring of the Holy Spirit. This is divine revelation given only by the Holy Spirit! How many times we have read the book of Job and thought that he was all together righteous.Let us think. P Givans

  22. The thing that God hates the most is pride. When we are proud, we think that because we are 'good' then we think that we deserve because of our goodness. Then God has no space to deliver because we think our goodness will deliver us. But when we humble ourselves for sure He is then able to enter into our lives and fulfill His plan.

  25. We have to examine other self every day, because if we don't the deceived spirit will come inside of our self and we will end up stay far from God and is will.

  26. We just have to be careful of the road that we are trading on especially if we know the truth but don't want to acknowledge the truth we just have to humble our self's and take the right the decision.
