TWO STORIES, ONE CONFLICT

All of us have at least two stories inside of us. One has a happy ending, the other has a horrible ending. Good and evil. Faith and doubt. Love and loneliness. Health and sickness. Always wishing for one and fearing the other.

There once lived a man named Jacob who lived in this conflict almost all his life. From his mother’s womb he received a promise from God guaranteeing a blessed future, where he would be the leader of his tribe in the place of his father Isaac. However, as the years went by, the truth started to distance itself from the promise.

His twin brother, Esau, was the one who had all the characteristics of a natural leader. He was a hunter, strong, brave. Jacob on the other hand had a different nature. He was quiet, homely. This made his father treat his brother with favoritism.

Two stories fought within Jacob. One said he would be great, blessed, happy. The other story was of a weak man, who lived in his brother’s shadow, always overlooked by his father and someone insecure of himself.

Jacob’s great discovery was that he could choose the story of his life. Through a fight with God, he changed everything in regards to himself, even his name.

You too have two stories inside of you. Perhaps you feel hostage to the one that ends up badly, and really distant from the one that you would like to play the lead.

There’s no doubt which one you would like to choose. There’s only one question left: are you willing to fight God to make it happen in your life?
